About Us

History

In the fall of 1972 fellow train enthusiast around the Indianapolis area wanted to share their love of trains, their history and many of their memories over the years. Many model train collectors and operators also wanted to gather and attend shows & train meets and share their hobby with others.

On Sunday, January 28, 1973 this group of friends gathered together at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis . The purpose was the formation of the Central Indiana Chapter of the TCA and an election of officers. In all 38 TCA members were counted present and pitched in to start the club. The cost was $2.00 for a membership and entrance to the next meet, or $1.00 to be on a mailing list. They raised $63.00 dollars that night.

On January 30, 1973 a checking account was opened at AFNB (American Fletcher National Bank) Larry Pfost entered the first deposit. The 1973 officers were:

  • Les Gordon President
  • Dick Sanford Vice-President
  • Larry Pfost Treasurer
  • Helen Gordon Secretary
  • Ed Rogers Sergeant at arms

The first meet of the newly formed Central Indiana Chapter was held at the Indiana State Fair Grounds, Senior Citizens building on May 6, 1973. Members from the following states attended and made this meet a success - Illinois , Indiana , Kentucky , Michigan , Missouri , Ohio , Pennsylvania , and West Virginia .

The first door prize was a Lionel Chessie won by Roland Calvert.


Purpose

The Central Indiana Chapter (CIC) of Train Collectors Association , which is located in Indianapolis , Indiana , is part of one of the largest and most prestigious collecting societies in the world.

Our Chapter is directly associated of the MidWest Division of TCA and are sanctioned by the TCA Headquarters in Strasburg , PA. Our organization is a non-profit Chapter under IRS Section 503 (c) (3).

Our Mission

To develop an appreciation of and to preserve an important segment of history -Tin Plate and Pre-War, Post War and Modern Toy Trains - through research, education, community outreach, fellowship, Kids Club, and to promote the growth and enjoyment of collecting and operating toy, model and scale trains.
